Liberal Studies (LS) students who are transitioning to CAS will be invited to a transition overview session during the semester of their transition. For most students, this will take place the second semester of their sophomore year. The goal of this session is to provide LS transitioning students with all the information and resources they need to make a smooth transition into the College. CAS academic advisors lead these sessions and are available to answer questions. LS transitioning students must then declare their major and meet with an advisor in their major department to ensure that appropriate course selections, for the following semester, are being made.
Once LS transitioning students have fully transitioned into CAS, they will continue to meet with their major advisor for registration clearance. They are also encouraged to meet with a CAS academic advisor to address any non-major related concerns (such as the College Core Curriculum). Students may contact the College Advising Center (Silver Center, Room 905, 212-998-8130) to schedule a meeting with their assigned CAS academic advisor, or they may meet with a part-time advisor during walk-in hours at the College Advising Center (Monday-Friday, 10am-4pm, but not Wednesdays 2pm-4pm). For more information about the LS-to-CAS Transition, visit the CAS New Student Center.
Current LS students and those who have recently made the transition into CAS can contact Deborah Lubanga, the CAS academic advisor liaison to Liberal Studies, at cas.newstudents@nyu.edu. LS students can also stop by Deborah's walk-in hours at the LS Advising Office (726 Broadway, 6th Floor), every Wednesday from 11:30am-1:00pm.
