Welcome to the College of Arts & Science (CAS) at New York University! We are excited to work with you, as you transition to the College, and will start reaching out to you in the beginning of May. Until then, be sure to read through all of the information on our website about first-year students to help you prepare for your transition to the College.
During CAS Orientation, we’ll get you ready to start your classes--you’ll meet your cohort (including your College Leader and Academic Advisor), learn the basics about CAS, and travel throughout the city!
CAS Orientation activities include but are not limited to the following:
- Cohort Welcome & Check-in
- Campus Tours
- Presidential Welcome & Reality Show
- Dean's Welcome
- Service Activity
- CAS 101
- Prehealth Meeting
- International Student Meeting
- Placement Exams
- First-Year Dialogue Discussions
- Proud to Be First Kick-off
- CAS Student Council Event
- Dual-Degree Engineering Program Meeting
- Academic Achievement Program (AAP) Meeting
All first-year students are required to enroll in a First-Year Seminar during their first year in CAS. These seminars are small, discussion-based courses taught by the University's top professors who are leading thinkers in their fields.
Interactive sessions are led by an academic advisor and College Leader (an upper-class student mentor) on topics ranging from academic resources to study away opportunities to cross-cultural communication. Cohort Meetings are supplemented by programs led by your College Leader throughout the semester to help build community and acclimate first-year students to NYU and NYC.
Each cohort will be led by a College Leader, which is a peer leader who will assist first-year students in their social, personal and academic transition
