Undergraduate Research Conference

36th Annual Undergraduate Research Conference

Friday, April 16, 2010

April 17, 2009 Conference Program

The College takes seriously the role of research in the liberal arts education of undergraduates.  Students regularly benefit from direct contact with our research faculty and are empowered and encouraged to conduct their own inquiries.  All undergraduates at the University are invited to participate in and present their research at the College’s 36th annual Undergraduate Research Conference on Friday, April 16, 2010. Projects showcasing undergraduate work in the Natural Sciences, Social Sciences and Humanities are welcome. The work may have been done in connection with a course or as independent or supervised study.

An important part of the application process is the research abstract. Each student or team must submit a single-spaced abstract of 150 to 200 words. The language used should be understood not only by someone knowledgeable in the field but also by a reasonably informed non-specialist. The abstract should address the problem or question under investigation, the methods used, and (anticipated or achieved) results and conclusions. The project mentor should review and approve this abstract before it is submitted. For team presentations, only one abstract is required, although each team member must complete the application form.

A faculty selection committee will determine the Conference schedule of presentations. Presentations at the Conference can be made by individuals or teams and are either by poster or by talk. Those students selected for talks should prepare a presentation no more than eight to ten minutes long.

Applications to participate in the Conference are available online.

Submission deadline for completed application and publication release:
5:00 PM, Monday, February 1, 2010

Submission deadline for abstract:
