All incoming first-year, first-generation students in the College of Arts and Science have the opportunity to be paired with an upper-class Proud to Be First Mentor. You are a first-generation college student if you are in the first generation of your family to go to college. Proud Mentors serve as resources on academics, extracurricular and co-curricular programs, research, community, and more in the College of Arts and Science.
They do this in a variety of ways, including:
- Regular check-ins with mentees
- Biweekly emails (helping students connect with campus resources, Proud to Be First events, internship opportunities)
- Updates about academic, social, and co-curricular events sponsored by Proud to Be First and groups throughout the University.
- Activities held by Proud Mentors twice a semester (e.g., internship panels, study away panels, study group opportunities, visit the Top of the Rock, see a Broadway show)
If you are a first-year, first-generation student at CAS and would like a Proud to Be First Mentor, please email email@example.com.
