The Womxn of Excellence, Strength, and Tenacity (WEST) was founded in 2006 with the mission to support and empower undergraduate womxn of color through the bond of sisterhood with a focus on three pillars: sisterhood, community service, and leadership.
Welcome Mixer: Every fall semester, we welcome incoming first-years by hosting a mixer to kick off the new academic year.
Sisterhood Events: Sisterhood events take place during general meetings on Fridays where students come and partake in various games, conversations to get to know each other, and more.
Leadership Events: WEST takes pride in creating leaders out of our members and we host leadership opportunities twice a semester. These opportunities give general members the opportunity to experience planning a WEST event.
Spring Formal: Every year, WEST gains leadership and planning skills by organizing a Spring Formal where members dress up, eat, and dance for a night to remember.
Pink Week: Each year during the fall semester, WEST hosts a week full of events in support of Breast Cancer Awareness month.
Community Service: WEST holds monthly community service opportunities for members to serve the NYU community and New York at large.
Retreat: WEST also collaborates with AAP to cultivate a retreat that allows us to be in a space to discuss ongoing issues and experiences specific to our diverse identities.
#IAMWEST: The IAMWEST campaign is an annual photoshoot campaign WEST holds each spring semester as a chance for members to express how they see themselves as members of WEST.
