Comparative Literature
Minimum MA Credits Before Bachelor's: 8 (two 4-credit courses)
Additional Application Prerequisites:
- Applicant must have a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA.
- Applicants are required to submit a writing sample, 6000 to 8000 words in length
- Applicants must meet with the Comparative Literature Director of Graduate Studies before submitting their Bachelor's-Master's application. This is in addition to the required meeting with a Bachelor's-Master's advisor to confirm general application eligibility.
- Comparative Literature BA/MA students are expected to demonstrate satisfactory proficiency in a non-English language at the time of their graduation from CAS. Students do not need to demonstrate proficiency in order to submit their application - but, they should speak with the Comparative Literature Director of Graduate Studies about their plan to develop or demonstrate such proficiency by the time they complete their undergraduate degree. Applicant can learn more here about how Comparative Literature allows students to demonstrate foreign language proficiency.
Computer Science
Minimum MS Credits Before Bachelor's: 9 (three 3-credit courses)
Additional Application Prerequisite: minimum 3.7 GPA in Computer Science major (standard and joint majors).
Digital Humanities & Social Science
PLEASE NOTE: Track not currently accepting applications
Minimum MS Credits Before Bachelor's: 8 (two 4-credit courses)
Additional Application Prerequisites:
- Completion of Introduction to Computer Programming (CSCI-UA 2) and Introduction to Web Design and Computer Principles (CSCI-UA 4), with a grade of B or better in both courses.
- At the time of their application to the BA/MS track, applicants must have declared either a minor in Computer Science or a minor in Web Programming and Applications. This minor will need to be completed before students enroll in any graduate-level Computer Science coursework.
East Asian Studies
Minimum MA Credits Before Bachelor's: 8 (two 4-credit courses)
Additional Application Prerequisites: a minimum 3.5 overall GPA and 3.6 East Asian Studies major GPA. It is recommended (though not required) that a student have proficiency in a language taught in the East Asian Studies department
Economics
***No applications will be accepted after the priority deadline***
Minimum MA Credits Before Bachelor's: 9 (three 3-credit courses)
Additional Application Prerequisites: a minimum GPA of 3.5 in the Economics major (or in Economics coursework, for non-majors) and completion of Intermediate Microeconomics and Intermediate Macroeconomics with letter grades. Students are strongly encouraged to also complete as many of the following courses as possible prior to application: Mathematics for Economics I & II (or one calculus and one linear algebra course), one statistics course, one econometrics course, and elective coursework in Economics.
English
***Applications only accepted in Spring***
Minimum MA Credits Before Bachelor's: 7 (one 3-credit course and one 4-credit courses). Accepted students must take Introduction to Advanced Literary Study for MA Students (ENGL-GA 2980) in the Fall of their Senior year.
Additional Application Prerequisites: a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5, and minimum English major GPA of 3.7. Eligible students also need to meet with Professor Jini Kim Watson (jini.watson@nyu.edu), Director of the English MA program, before submitting their application.
Additional Application Components: a 10-page writing sample; the applicant's statement of purpose must incorporate answers to these questions.

Additional Application Prerequisite: Applicants must have at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA.
Irish and Irish American Studies
Minimum MA Credits Before Bachelor's: 8 (two 4-credit courses)
Italian Studies

Latin American and Caribbean Studies

Additional Application Component: writing sample. It need not relate to Latin American Studies, but it should give a sense of your skills in analysis and argumentation.
Mathematics
Minimum MS Credits Before Bachelor's: 9 (three 3-credit courses)
Additional Application Prerequisites: Minimum 3.7 GPA in Mathematics coursework, and completion of 2 of the following courses:

Mathematics in Finance
Minimum MS Credits Before Bachelor's: 12 (four 3-credit courses)
Additional Application Prerequisites:
1. Minimum 3.7 GPA in Mathematics coursework
2. Completion of the following courses before the semester of application:
- MATH-UA 325 Analysis (or the equivalent)
- MATH-UA 140 Linear Algebra (or the equivalent)
- MATH-UA 233 Theory of Probability and MATH-UA 234 Mathematical Statistics (or equivalent)
- CSCI-UA 101 Introduction to Computer Science (or equivalent)
- CSCI-UA 102 Data Structures (or equivalent
The department also recommends students complete the following courses (although these are not required for admission): MATH-UA 262, MATH-UA 263, MATH-UA 252, MATH-UA 253, CSCI-UA 310, CSCI-UA 470

Museum Studies
Minimum MA Credits Before Bachelor's: 12 (three 4-credit courses). Students complete 8 credits in the fall of senior year (MSMS-GA 1500 History and Theory of Museums and MSMS-GA 1501 Museum Collections and Exhibitions) and 4 credits in the spring (MSMS-GA 1502 Museum Management).
Additional Application Prerequisites: Applications for the Bachelor's-Master's track in Museum Studies are only accepted in the spring semester of a student's junior year. Applicants must have completed or be engaged in a museum-based internship, and must arrange to meet with Professor Rosanna Flouty, Director of the Museum Studies Program, prior to submitting their application.
Near Eastern Studies
Minimum MA Credits Before Bachelor's: 8 (two 4-credit courses). Students must enroll in Problems and Methods in Middle Eastern Studies (MEIS-GA 1687) in the Fall of their senior year, and must complete this course with a B or better to continue on the BA/MA track.
Additional Application Prerequisites:
- Prospective applicants must meet with the Director of Graduate Studies before submitting their BA/MA application.
- Accepted applicants must plan to demonstrate intermediate-level proficiency (equivalent to an Intermediate 2-level course in CAS) in a Middle Eastern Language by the completion of their undergraduate degree. This proficiency can be demonstrated via undergraduate coursework, placement test, or, for native speakers, waived in consulatation with the Director of Graduate Studies. Additional Application Components:
- A writing sample: 15 pages (double-spaced)
- A language plan: applicants must upload with their applications a 1-page (double-spaced) statement detailing their experience studying Middle Eastern languages, and their plan for demonstrating the required proficiency by the end of their undergraduate degree.
Physics
Minimum MS Credits Before Bachelor's: 8 (two 4-credit courses)
Politics
Minimum MA Credits Before Bachelor's: 8 (two 4-credit courses)
Additional Application Prerequisites:
- Applicants must have a declared Politics major or minor.
- Politics BA/MA applicants must submit a writing sample. The writing sample should be a research paper or shorter essay that you have written for a class. Students are encouraged to submit a sample written for a political science or related course that they feel is the best representation of their writing and research ability. The sample should be no less than 5 pages and no more than 25 pages in length, double-spaced.
Psychology—General
Minimum MA Credits Before Bachelor's: 9 (three 3-credit courses)
Additional Application Prerequisites:
- Minimum undergraduate cumulative GPA of 3.5
- Completion of at least 4 Psychology department (PSYCH-UA) courses at NYU with a grade of B+ or better. These 4 courses must include:
- Introduction to Psychology (PSYCH-UA 1) (AP/other advanced standing credit also acceptable)
- Statistics for the Behavioral Sciences (PSYCH-UA 10)
- A "Core A" Psychology course
- A "Core B" Psychology course

One of the following CAMS (CAMS-UA) courses may be counted towards the 4 required courses (in place of a Core A or Core B Psychology course): CAMS-UA 101 (Child and Adolescent Psychology), CAMS-UA 180 (Drugs and Kids), CAMS-UA 141 (Child Brain Development: Applications from Neuroscience to Practice).
- At least one letter of recommendation from a Psychology department faculty member
After Psychology applicants have been cleared to apply by a Bachelor's-Master's advisor, they must meet with a Psychology Master's Program Coordinator before submitting their application. Contact Raquel Borg (rlb428@nyu.edu) to schedule an appointment. Students who have not met with a Psychology Master's Program Coordinator will not be considered for admission into the General Psychology BA/MA track. Please note that this meeting is for informational advisement only, and does not indicate or guarantee acceptance into the BA/MA program. Due to the accelerated nature of this program, some adjustments may be made to the standard Psychology MA trajectory: for example, a student may be required to take comprehensive exams if there is not enough time to identify a faculty sponsor and complete a thesis. Not all MA classes will be open while the student is still an undergraduate.
Psychology—Industrial/Organizational (I/O)
Minimum MA Credits Before Bachelor's: 9 (three 3-credit courses)
Additional Application Prerequisites:
- Minimum undergraduate cumulative GPA of 3.5
- Completion of at least 4 Psychology department (PSYCH-UA) courses at NYU with a grade of B+ or better. These 4 courses must include:
- Introduction to Psychology (PSYCH-UA 1) (AP/other advanced standing credit also acceptable)
- Statistics for the Behavioral Sciences (PSYCH-UA 10)
- Industrial/Organizational Psychology (PSYCH-UA 62) or I/O Psychology (PSYCH-GA 2032 - email rlb428@nyu.edu for enrollment). PLEASE NOTE: If Psychology has not been able to offer PSYCH-UA 62 in recent semesters, this requirement can be replaced by another Psychology "Core A" or "Core B" course.
- A "Core A" or "Core B" Psychology course
