Wagner Bachelor's-Master's Track: Credit Requirements
NYU Wagner's Master of Public Administration (MPA) and Master of Urban Planning (MUP) degrees each require 45 credits.
- The MPA requires 15 credits of school-wide core coursework, 12-18 specialization credits, 9-15 elective credits, and 3 capstone project credits.
- The MUP requires 12 credits of school-wide core coursework, 15 specialization credits, 15 elective credits, and 3 capstone credits.
Through the Bachelor's-Master's program between CAS and Wagner, eligible students can waive/complete up to 21 of these credits (7 courses) while they are still in CAS.
Students can waive Wagner graduate requirements by taking equivalent undergraduate courses, or take Wagner graduate coursework and double-count those credits between their ungraduate and graduate degrees. After earning the Bachelor’s degree, and pending admission to Wagner, students in this program complete the remainder of their MPA or MUP credits in generally one to two years of additional study.
Master of Public Administration (MPA)
Wagner offers two MPA programs:
- The Public and Nonprofit Policy and Management MPA provides the broadest curriculum, allowing students to specialize in finance, management, public policy, or international development, and to select among a wide range of elective clusters.
- Students pursuing Wagner’s Health Policy and Management MPA also specialize in one of the areas just listed, but their studies are geared towards work specifically in health policy and management.
For the 21 credits they are allowed to waive/complete as undergraduates, BA-MPA students should focus first on 15 credits of core coursework required for the MPA. Once they have completed this core coursework, students can work with a Wagner advisor to select specialization or elective courses for their remaining credits.
MPA Core Coursework and Undergraduate Equivalents
The following is a list of Wagner MPA Core courses and, where relevant, the undergraduate courses that can be used to waive these Core courses. If an undergraduate version of a Wagner course is available, Bachelor's-Master's students are encouraged to take this over graduate version.
In the case where a CAS student takes a Wagner graduate course: gradaute courses can count both towards a student's undergraduate and graduate degree requirements. Please speak to a Wagner advisor for assistance selecting and ernolling in Wagner graduate credits.
