The College of Arts and Science works with departments with ideas for new short-term faculty-led programs abroad at NYU Global Sites or other locations. For the College's purposes, a short-term program is defined as: 1) led by full-time FAS faculty (TT or Clinical); 2) featuring at least one credit-bearing course; 3) lasting at least three weeks during the January or Summer term; and 4) paired with co-curricular programming relevant to the host location.
A rough outline for submitting new proposals includes:
STEP 1: Departments interested in proposing a new short-term program should complete the short curriculum planning document and return to armanda.lewis@nyu.edu. This form is meant for initial exploration of new short-term programs with the College of Arts and Science and will be reviewed by Armanda Lewis, Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, and Noelle Marchetta, Director of CAS Summer and Study Abroad.
STEP 2: Following CAS Academic Affairs review and approval to move forward, the Office of CAS Summer and Study Abroad will contact the department/faculty to set up an initial meeting to discuss in more detail. A fuller narrative and program proposal, as well as a preliminary program budget will be developed during this phase.
STEP 3: A final proposal is submitted in the Department's APR. If approved, the new program can launch in the following academic year.
STEP 4: The department and associated faculty work with CAS Summer and Study Abroad to implement a promotional plan, and the faculty director works closely with this office throughout the academic year on administrative items related to launching the program.
ANTICIPATED TIMELINE: At least one year in advance from target launch term.
