External Transfer FAQs
1. I want to externally transfer to NYU's College of Arts & Science (CAS). How do I apply?

2. Does CAS accept external transfers in the spring semester?
Yes, CAS accepts external transfer applications for the fall and spring semesters.
3. When will I receive my admissions decision?

4. I've been accepted to CAS! What do I do now?
Congrats! You can refer to our Office of Undergraduate Admissions' website for helpful instructions - be sure to visit and review their "Next Steps" page. Keep your eyes on your inbox for an email from cas.newstudents@nyu.edu with information on starting the course registration process.
5. Can I live on campus as a transfer student?
Visit the Residential Life and Housing Services application page to apply for on campus housing. Housing is not guaranteed, but you can ignore any listed deadlines for students. We encourage you to contact their office directly and identify yourself as an incoming external transfer student. You can reach NYU Housing at housing@nyu.edu or (212) 998-4600.
6. When is my tuition payment due?
Your tuition bill for the semester will be generated only after you have registered for courses. For more specific information about how to make a tuition payment and when payment is due, please refer to the payment information page provided by the Office of the Bursar.
7. How can I find out more about my credits transferring to NYU?
The Office of Undergraduate Admissions provides information regarding general policies surrounding accepted transfer credit. An initial Transfer Credit Report will be generated and can be accessed via NYU Albert, our electronic student system. This preliminary report only identifies potential College Core Curriculum equivalencies and outside CAS credits, the rest will be discussed during advising and registration. Note, all credits will be equated to a semester system, thus quarter and trimester systems credit amounts may differ. Credits will be finalized after receipt of your final High School and College transcripts by NYU. See instructions here.
8. What are the Core Curriculum requirements for CAS students?
You can read all about CAS' Core Curriculum here. This site includes details about the requirements you may need to fulfill, potential requirement exemptions, and other valuable information. These courses are the foundation of the CAS experience and may differ from your previous
9. How will my previous coursework equate to CAS coursework?
In some cases, specific classes you have taken at another institution prior to NYU can count towards major requirements and/or College Core Curriculum requirements. Otherwise, credits may be able to count as electives towards the minimum overall credit requirement. Refer to your Transfer Credit Report for more information on this!

10. Are there restrictions on majors that I can apply to in the College of Arts and Science?
Some majors will require that you successfully complete introductory courses (or their transfer course equivalent, as approved by the department) before you can officially declare (ex: Psychology, Neural Science, Global Public Health, Public Policy) Also, the

11. When and how do I register for courses?
Students will register for courses after completing the CAS Virtual Advising Portal, which will allow a CAS academic advisor to contact them and begin the registration process. All correspondence will require students to utilize their NYU email account, so activate that

Transfer students can take placement exams for certain departments, including Math and Computer Science that will help indicate which level of coursework you should enroll.
Foreign language placement exams can also be found through the above link, most of which can be taken online.
13. How can transfer students get involved on campus?
We encourage interested students to check out opportunities for student leadership like the CAS Transfer Orientation Leader (TOL) and NYU Transfer Student Ambassadors (TSA) programs. NYU's Center for Student Life also provides numerous resources to help connect new transfer students with the NYU community.
Within the College of Arts and Science, we also encourage you to get involved with the College Cohort Program, CAS Student Council (which features a transfer student committee!), Academic Achievement Program (AAP), and the CAS International Student Club.
Overall, NYU has over 300 clubs and activities, both school specific and university-wide, and many more opportunities for our students to get involved! To search for clubs, go to NYU Engage or use the Find My Club app.
14. Am I able to study abroad as a transfer student?
Yes, transfer students are still eligible to take part in our numerous study away opportunities. To find out more about specific study away sites and course listings, please refer to NYU Global and CAS Summer Abroad Programs. You must spend your first semester on NYU Washington Square campus.
15. I'm coming to CAS this Fall, but I'd like to start making progress towards my degree now! Can I take Summer 2021 courses at CAS?
Absolutely! To do so, email cas.newstudents@nyu.edu and let us know that you're an incoming external transfer student and that you'd like to take summer courses. The Office of New Students will work to update your record so you are able to enroll in NYU classes for Summer 2022.
16. How can I search for CAS' Summer 2022 course offerings?
You can find CAS' Summer 2022 course offerings by searching the Summer 2022 section of NYU Albert's Course Search (Albert is NYU's course registration system). CAS classes can be found in the College of Arts and Science section and end with the suffix "-UA" (e.g., CAS Calculus I is MATH-UA 121).
Additionally, there are a few courses which were originally scheduled for a global location but are now being offered online to all students, including incoming transfer students. You may review the list of available CAS Summer Abroad courses here (again, these are now being offered online to all students).
