Eligibility Requirements
Who is eligible to apply for the CAS-NYU Law Pathway Scholarship (CLPS)?
Our eligibility requirements are outlined on the CAS-NYU Law Pathway Scholarship website. Students must meet all requirements in order to be eligible to apply.
Can you make exceptions to the eligibility requirements?
No. The eligibility criteria for the program are based on American Bar Association standards and cannot be waived under any circumstances.
If I don’t meet the eligibility for the CAS-NYU Law Pathway Scholarship, can I still apply to NYU School of Law?
Yes! We encourage you to apply to law school during the regular admission cycle and meet with a preprofessional advisor to discuss your law school application plans.
I have taken courses during the summer semester. Do these count toward my sixth semester?
We only count regular semesters of academic coursework, Fall/Spring for this requirement. J-term or summer terms do not apply.
I transferred to NYU CAS from another university, can I apply?
To be eligible, students must be in their sixth semester of undergraduate coursework with a total of 8 semesters of undergraduate coursework to be completed. This includes coursework done at previous institutions, as well as NYU. Therefore, transfer students who are current NYU CAS students in their sixth semester of overall undergraduate coursework are eligible to apply.
The requirement of 3.5 GPA or above must be through six semesters of academic work, so your overall GPA will be computed for the purposes of this scholarship. This would include grades from both NYU and your transfer institution.
I am a transfer student, my previous university used the quarter/trimester system, how do I know if I have six semesters?
For transfer students, if you are a second-semester junior, with two semesters left to complete your degree you are eligible to apply.
I am a sixth-semester NYU CAS student. However, I will be graduating a year early in May. Am I still eligible to apply for the CAS-NYU Law Pathway Scholarship?
No, the CAS-NYU Law Pathway Scholarship is only available to students who are completing 8 semesters as an NYU undergraduate and are in their sixth semester of undergraduate coursework. If you plan to graduate early, we advise that you apply to law schools during the regular admissions cycle.
I came in with AP/IB/A-level credits so my class standing lists me as a “senior,” however I still plan to graduate in the traditional 8 semesters. Am I eligible?
Yes, you can still apply if you are completing your sixth semester of undergraduate coursework regardless of your advanced credits.
I am currently a senior. Can an exception be made in my case?
Current seniors and/or graduating students are not eligible to apply. We commend your interest in law school and encourage you to apply during the regular admissions cycle. Our office, the Preprofessional Advising Center, will be available to you as an NYU graduate.
I am a Steinhardt [Tisch, Stern, Tandon, GLS, Gallatin, SPS] student with a CAS major/minor, can I apply for this scholarship?
No. The CAS-NYU Law Pathway Scholarship is only available for students whose home school is the College of Arts and Science.
I am a sixth-semester CAS junior, but I am planning on graduating a semester early in the Fall and only taking 7 semesters of coursework, can I still apply?
Please contact prelaw@nyu.edu for more information.
I am a junior in my sixth semester and my GPA is below a 3.5, by the end of the semester I think it should be a 3.5, am I still eligible to apply?
You may apply, but your GPA must be a 3.5 by the time you apply to NYU School of Law (Step 3 of the application process). Given we have dozens of well-qualified applications, a student who is not yet at a 3.5 would not be considered competitive in our applicant pool.
I am an international student, can I apply for the CAS-NYU Law Pathway Scholarship?
Yes! International students are eligible to apply for this scholarship.
What role does citizenship play in the eligibility requirements?
We welcome applicants from all individuals, regardless of citizenship status, including individuals who have been granted deferred action under Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), individuals who have applied for deferred action under DACA, and individuals who are undocumented. All applicants must meet all eligibility requirements to be considered.
Are graduate students eligible to apply for CLPS?
This scholarship is only available to CAS undergraduate students.
I have taken a leave of absence. Can I still apply for the CAS-NYU Law Pathway Scholarship?
To be eligible to apply for the program, students must be in their sixth semester of coursework. Therefore, any student who has taken a leave of absence and is not completing their sixth semester in the spring would not be eligible to apply.
