Application Procedures

Note: Once an admissions decision has been reached, the applicant will be notified of the decision by email within 2-4 weeks of the stated deadline.

STEPS TO SUBMIT AN INTEREST FORM (ALL APPLICANTS):

Please Note: The CAS Summer Abroad application does not require letters of recommendation.

  1. Log into the application using you NYU net ID and password (Visiting students will create an application ID)
  2. Select “Start CAS Summer Study Abroad 2023 Interest Form”
  3. Submit all required sections of the form
  4. Receive a confirmation email to access your individualized Enrollment Portal. It will take about 15-30 minutes to receive access to this page

A complete submission will require:

  • 1st choice and 2nd choice selection (optional third). Depending on dates of the program selected it may be possible to pair with a second summer program. Should this be feasible based on selection, an optional drop list will appear.

Eligibility

General eligibility requirements for CAS Summer Abroad programs:

  • Applicants must be enrolled in a US accredited college and/or university (including current NYU undergraduate and graduate students). Individuals who have completed at least one year of college but who are not currently enrolled are eligible to apply as visiting students; however, priority will be given to students who are currently matriculated;
  • The completion of at least two full-time semesters of college is required. Credit from advanced placement coursework cannot replace two full semesters of university enrollment;
  • The applicant must be at least 18 years old prior to the beginning of summer term; 
  • Students must be in Academic Good Standing as defined by home school;
  • Students on academic or disciplinary probation are ineligible to study away;
  • Students currently on leave from the University may be required to return to their home campus and successfully complete one academic semester (Fall or Spring) of full-time course work before enrolling in NYU Study Away opportunity; this is determined on a case-by-case basis.

Please note: Admission to CAS Summer Abroad is contingent upon the applicant's continued academic success and an additional review of his or her University records between the offer of admission and departure. Should a student's admission be revoked as a result of this review, New York University is not responsible for refunding any expenses incurred in preparation for the intended summer abroad. 

Review and Notification

An integrated review of a student’s academic background and University records is required to confirm admission to any NYU Global Academic Center. Once an admissions decision has been reached, the applicant will be notified of the decision by email, typically within 2-4 weeks of the stated application deadline (ex. applicants who apply by the February 1 deadline typically receive notification around February 15). Only completed applications will be reviewed. If an application is incomplete and/or missing a required component (i.e. academic transcript), it will not be reviewed until the missing material is received.

Academic Success & Review of University Records

Please be aware that admission to any NYU study away programs is contingent upon the applicant’s continued academic success and a review of his or her University records. Should a student’s admission be revoked as a result of this review, New York University is not responsible for refunding any expenses incurred in preparation for the intended semester of study.

Discipline Statement

Given their unique nature, membership in a global campus community requires mutual respect, consideration, and concern for the well-being of others as well as a significant degree of personal integrity and maturity. Students whose prior behavior has been determined through the University student conduct process to have been disruptive to the University community and/or antithetical to these qualities may be precluded from participation in the study away experience. Accordingly, please be advised that information concerning student conduct actions is made available to the New York University Global Academic Centers and may be taken into consideration in the process of reviewing a student’s application to participate. Students who have been placed on University disciplinary probation or on deferred suspension from University housing are ineligible to participate in study away during the period of their probation and/or deferred status. Students who have been suspended, withdrawn, or dismissed from the University and those who have been dismissed or suspended from University housing are permanently ineligible to enroll at the Global Academic Centers.

University Leave Policy

Students who have been on leave from NYU may be required to return to their home campus and successfully complete one academic semester (fall or spring) of full-time course work before enrolling in an NYU summer study away program.

Transfer of Credits

Students who are not enrolled at NYU should consult their home college/university (usually an academic advisor) to find out if their school will accept the transfer credits. NYU is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools but each institution may have specific policies dictating what classes are transferable from outside institutions. Please see specific program pages for individual course sample syllabi.

Students with Disabilities

Students with disabilities who are requesting accommodations at NYU programs abroad must contact the Moses Center for Student Accessibility to discuss reasonable accommodations. Students are encouraged to contact the Moses Center for Student Accessibility prior to choosing a site and should register with the Moses Center as soon as they receive notification of their acceptance to a program.
