Career Paths in STEM" events feature women professionals in different STEM sectors. Kathryn Clay is an energy sector expert and a strategist for Innovative Policy Solutions. She has a Master's in Electrical Engineering and a PhD in Physics (2004), both from University of Michigan. A short presentation will be followed by discussion and Q&A about Dr. Clay's career paths and challenges faced along the way.
FIELD TRIP TO THE AMERICAN NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM

Join us and Professor Winchell for a guided tour of the Dept of Herpetology hosted by Dr. Lauren Vonnahme, Senior Museum Specialist, Department of Herpetology, The American Museum of Natural History. "A behind the scenes exploration of some of the Museum's hidden treasures to learn more about reptiles and amphibians, and get a rare glimpse at groundbreaking research, colossal bones, and animal oddities."

Anthropologist Margaret Mead journeyed to American Samoa in 1925 to explore adolescent development. Fame and controversy followed the publication of her book Coming of Age in Samoa.

Professor Kristin Winchell, an ecologist from the Biology Department, studies how animals respond ecologically and evolutionarily to the challenges created by humans - from fragmented tropical forests to the concrete jungles of big cities.

During World War II, thousands of scientists and engineers worked on the Manhattan project, the top secret push to develop an atomic bomb that would end the war. Two bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki did just that, while also killing hundreds of thousands of Japanese civilians. The devastating potential of nuclear weapons sparked a moral controversy that continues to this day. Hundreds of the scientists who worked on the Manhattan Project were women.
