Spring Mixer: WINS held a start of-the-semester party
Spring lecture, featuring keynote speaker, Dr. Emily Balcetis on "Getting Focused & Fired Up".
When it comes to fitness, some people quite literally see the world differently from others. These visual experiences contribute to success and failure in staying fit. In her talk, Dr. Balcetis will offer a surprisingly simple solution to overcome these differences.
Dr. Emily Balcetis is an Assistant Professor of Psychology at NYU. She studies the motivational biases in visual and social perception and the consequential effects for behavior and navigation of the social world.

Fall 2014 lecture by Dr. Chiye Aoki - presented her research on the coping mechanisms our brains recruit in response to stress and how a bit of anxiety is not such a bad thing after all. It was titled "The Neurobiological basis for individuality in the coping mechanism to stress".
WINS Panelist Discussion - November 10th
Three accomplished scientists joined WINS on November 10th. One is an early career scientist in academia, Dr. Gabrielle A. Russo, who was particularly great at answering questions about graduate school, post-docs, job applications, hiring negotiations. One is a later career scientist in academia, Dr. Carol Shoshkes Reiss, who was great at answering questions regarding career path, tenure, work-life balance in academia for example. One industry scientist, Dr. Valerie Iddison, who was very useful to direct questions to about issues such as choosing industry over academia, pros and cons of industry work.

Dalton School Outreach - November 10th
WINS members, Emma Curtis, Paris DeYoung, Laura Cracium, Nikki Payne and Asher Williams with Professor Shara Bailey raised awareness about women in the STEM fields through a presentation at the Dalton School.
