Hi everyone! My name is Sophia Gunawan and I’m a sophomore studying Global Public Health with a concentration in Biology. I am a member of the Natarajan Lab where my current project focuses on using national health databases to study potential trends in the outcomes of patients living with diabetes. In addition to learning to analyze clinical databases in efforts to study socioeconomic disparities in health, I have further interests in oncogenomics and hope to work more with live cell cultures and specimens later on in my undergraduate career. Outside of my studies, I am a member of a few New York City dance crews and enjoy attending workshops in my free time. I also like to bake new recipes and take walks around the city!
Rebecca Ronnen
I’m a sophomore and CAS Presidential Honors Scholar majoring in Neural Science and minoring in Public Health and Chemistry on the pre-med track, with the intention of pursuing an MD or an MD/PhD. I became interested in neuroscience because I wanted to understand the biological basis of neurodevelopmental disorders and have started to research calcium signaling in glioblastoma in the Placantonakis Lab. I also recently finished a research project assessing methods of increasing genetic testing frequency of pancreas cancer patients. My nonacademic interests include teaching environmental science to NYC public school students through a nonprofit called Sprout Up, leading summer hiking trips for kids, bouldering, and exploring the best dessert spots near campus.
